STAR-DELTA MOTOR CONNECTION PROJECT

🔹 Project Overview

As part of my work with M. Power Engineering, I successfully implemented Star-Delta Motor Control Circuits for large induction motors. This system is used to reduce the high inrush current during motor starting, protecting both the motor and the electrical network.

The project involved designing, wiring, and testing the star-delta starter both in manual and automatic mode, ensuring safe and reliable motor operation.


🔹 Objectives

  • Design and implement a star-delta motor starter connection.

  • Reduce starting current while maintaining sufficient torque.

  • Integrate protection devices (MCB, overload relay, fuses).

  • Ensure safe operation through push buttons and indicators.

  • Deliver a neat, professional control panel setup for industrial use.




🔹 Scope of Work & Responsibilities

1. Circuit Design & Planning

  • Prepared power and control circuit diagrams.

  • Selected proper rating contactors, overload relays, and timers.

  • Ensured compatibility with motor specifications (voltage, HP, current).

2. Panel Assembly & Wiring

  • Installed three contactors (Main, Star, Delta) on DIN rail.

  • Wired power circuit for star and delta connection.

  • Connected control circuit with timer, push buttons, and interlocks.

  • Added indication lamps (ON, Star, Delta) for status monitoring.

3. Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Verified proper sequence: Start → Star Mode → Timed Changeover → Delta Mode.

  • Checked overload relay trip settings for motor protection.

  • Troubleshot wiring and timing issues during initial tests.

4. Safety & Documentation

  • Implemented proper earthing and insulation.

  • Created detailed wiring diagrams and documentation for future maintenance.
